Educating Rita, this succesful play, made into a movie starring Michael Caine and Julie Walter, will make you laugh, think and enjoy a very pleasant evening of great theatre and entertainment with local stars Christy K. Basa and Joe Rux. Directed by Glenn T. Griffin and in the intimate Duke Power Theatre, "Educating Rita" runs from August 7th thru August 23rd at 8:00 PM with a special matinee on sunday 17th August at 2:30 pm. Frank is a tutor of English whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to the bottle. Rita is a hairdresser hungry to find some meaning to life. With Frank as her tutor Rita embarks on an Open University course and her education process begins. The effects are both amusing and dramatic as her fresh, intuitive approach becomes clouded and stifled as she grapples with the problem of a formal education, while Frank also learns something - to believe in himself again. "Warmly written. . . . It is the interchange of feeling and realization of new approaches to life on both sides that make this play of particular interest."-London Sunday Telegraph "A marvelous play, painfully funny and passionately serious; a hilarious social documentary; a fairy tale with a quizzical, half happy ending."-London Sunday Times |
