Paul Rudnick’s gleefully outrageous reinterpretation of Creation featuring
Adam and Steve - and Jane and Mabel! These innocently bawdy
Garden-dwellers are on a journey of wonder and exploration, from their
bodily functions to the names of the animals and, ultimately, to the nature of
their relationship with their Creator.
A long-running Off-Broadway hit, “The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told” is a
deliriously funny take on the Book of Genesis from a flamboyantly and
hysterically gay perspective. God, or The Stage Manager creates Adam and
Steve and lets them loose in the Garden of Eden. After being banished from
Eden, they encounter Jane and Mabel, who insist that they were the earth’s
original couple. Together the quartet survives the centuries, including time
on the Ark during the Flood years, slavery in Egypt ruled by a supremely
effete Pharaoh, and concluding with life in modern day New York City
where they are once again facing more down-to-earth issues: one of them is
dying, and one is about to give birth.
"Funny it is…consistently, rapaciously, deliriously…
easily the funniest play in town." —Variety.
"Line by line, Mr. Rudnick may be the funniest writer
for the stage in the United States today…"
—NY Times.
"…there is no one writing for the stage today who is capable of more acid
quips or hilarious rejoinders than Rudnick…Even if there's a part of you that
will be chagrined by this play's uncertain attitude toward religious beliefs,
you will find yourself laughing uncontrollably throughout the evening."
—NY Daily News.
